About Us

Bargrennan is the affix of Janine and John Armstrong. We are a small kennel situated in Ayrshire on the South West coast of Scotland. We have owned English Setters for over 30 years and have been showing and breeding for around 20 years.

I fell in love with the breed many years ago as a young girl when watching Crufts on telly but I  had to wait a few years  before owning my first English Setter, Tara, who was a surprise wedding present from John.

I had, over the years, always had a hankering to show dogs but never quite knew how to go about it.  However, when we lost Tara at 11½ years old, we purchased an orange dog Sam and were given a lot of help and advice on showing from the breeder from whom we purchased him.

We do not breed very often, only when we want a new puppy to show and, because of this, we try to breed very carefully and selectively.   We occasionally have english setter puppies available to approved homes.

We have in more recent years bred our own stock, and have had a lot of success in the show ring with and have bred 3 Show Champions, a Portugese, a Polish Show Champion and, of course, our very own Sh Ch Bargrennan Dailuaine ShCM.

We have been active in the breed now for many years and are both members of Drongan and District Canine Society Committee.

I have recently taken up judging, after deciding for a long time whether I really wanted to and am now on the C List for English Setters.
